Do health professional and consumer organisations support MediTracker?

The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners has endorsed MediTracker as a part of the Inca suite of healthcare solutions for supporting quality improvement in general practice.

In addition, a number of health-related consumer bodies, including Diabetes Australia and Movember Foundation, have endorsed MediTracker in recognition of the benefits it offers to patients and their community.

Does use of MediTracker affect a GP’s professional indemnity insurance?

Advice from leading indemnity insurers is that use of MediTracker will not affect a GP’s liability insurance.

As MediTracker extracts a view-only medical summary, the provision of health information to the patient is similar to the use of My Health Record or a printed version of a patient’s medical summary. MediTracker does not extract GP notes, documents, or any information marked as confidential.

The provision of this information to patients should improve patient safety and also enable them to provide feedback to you if there are any omissions or errors in the record.

Nevertheless, you may wish to advise your indemnity insurer that you are sharing your patient records electronically.
